Birthday Cakes for Kids

With four little girls in our house, we have a lot of fun. One way we have fun & save few dollars is to make our own birthday cakes. They choose the theme and I do my best to make it happen. I'm not the best yet, but I am getting better. This blog is for me to share my ideas with you and also for you to share yours with the rest of us do-it-all moms.

Caterpillar Cake

This was an adventure in mixing colors! I suggest using black jelly beans for eyes and licorice rope for the mouth. It's hard to get them "just right" which explains the goofy look on his face.

I also made a matching cup cake for the birthday girl.

Hello Kitty Cake

Here is an easy way to make a Hello Kitty cake.

Frost cake in pink. Make a stencil by using a coloring page of Hello Kitty. Cut out the outline and trace it on to the cake with a toothpick. Cut out the eyes and mouth & bow in her hair and mark in the right spot on the cake. Trace the outline in white icing (red for the bow).

Fill in the outline with dots of icing. If you don't have an icing bag, just use a baggie with a little tiny hole cut it the corner for making the dots.

Decorate the rest as you please. I just used pink red & white icing. The eyes and nose are jelly beans. The whiskers are licorice.
